Funding call for GB Womens World Gliding Championship Team

Great Britain’s Womens World Gliding Championship Team have launched a funding drive to support their appearance at this year’s world championships being held in the Czech Republic.

Unlike many of the national teams that are competing this year, Team GB is not state funded and the six competitors require support in taking their single-seat gliders out to Zbraslavice for the championships being held from 26 July to 09 August 2025.

Team leader Liz Sparrow, who in 2013 became the top ranked women in world gliding, says: “Each Individual team member costs are estimated up to £5,000 each. These individuals costs include the gliders’ road transport (UK to the Czech Republic), ferries/ Eurotunnel, daily glider launch fees, food and accommodation (for a three weeks stay in Zbraslavice), team training, additional insurance and more.

“Many of team GB´s competitors are fully funded by their state. We are not. So you can appreciate how much your financial help is both needed and appreciated.”

Team GB have set up a crowdfunding page to assist in reaching their £30,000 target.
